Accessibility statement
MyTop50 is built and maintained by a blind developer. Accessibility is not a bolt-on to this site — it is the default, because the site has to work for the person shipping it.
Last reviewed: 17 April 2026.
Standard we target
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. Where practical we exceed AA — several contrast ratios on the site are at AAA, and the reading order is designed for linear screen-reader navigation rather than visual scanning.
What works on this site
- Every page starts with a "Skip to main content" link as the first focusable element.
- Landmark roles (banner, navigation, main, complementary, contentinfo) on every structural region.
- Exactly one H1 per page, strict heading hierarchy, no level skips.
- Descriptive link text throughout. No "click here" or bare "read more".
- All images carry meaningful alternative text. Decorative ornaments use empty alt and aria-hidden.
- Colour is never the only way information is conveyed.
- Focus indicators are visible on every interactive element — a three-pixel outline in a high-contrast colour.
- Forms have visible labels associated with their inputs.
- FAQ and disclosure widgets use native details/summary elements, which screen readers handle natively.
- The site works without JavaScript. The small script we ship only adds progressive enhancement such as marking the current page in the primary navigation.
- Text reflows cleanly at 200 per cent zoom without loss of content or function.
- The layout respects the user's prefers-reduced-motion setting.
What we have tested with
- JAWS (latest) on Windows 11 with Microsoft Edge — heading navigation, landmark navigation, forms mode.
- NVDA on Windows with Firefox — as a cross-check.
- VoiceOver on macOS Safari and iOS Safari.
- Keyboard-only navigation with no pointing device.
- Automated checks with axe and the HTML5 validator.
Known issues
Known at the time of publication:
- Product images sourced from Amazon inherit Amazon's own alt text in some cases. We replace this with our own descriptive alt text where the pipeline produces one, but a small number of older pages may still carry generic alt strings until they are regenerated.
- Product images on review pages are currently served from Amazon's CDN for reasons of Amazon Associates terms. We are evaluating a caching strategy that preserves terms compliance while giving us control over formats and sizing.

How to report a problem
Email [email protected] with the URL of the page, the browser or assistive technology you were using, and a brief description of what went wrong. We aim to acknowledge within two working days and to fix substantive issues within fourteen days. We reply in plain text.
